Herbal Medicine for Treating Dysmenorrhea

Dysmenorrhea or menstrual pain is a condition in which menstruation is accompanied by severe pain. There are 2 types of dysmenorrhea, which is of primary dysmenorrhea and secondary dysmenorrhea.


Primary dysmenorrhea
Primary dysmenorrhea is menstrual pain that occurs without any real gynecologic disorders. The pain arising prior to or together with menstruation and lasted for several hours, although in some cases can last up to several days. The pain can be accompanied by nausea, vomiting, headache, diarrhea.
The causes include: psychological factors, constitutional factors, cervical canal obstruction factors, endocrine factors, allergic factors.


Secondary dysmenorrhea
Secondary dysmenorrhea is menstrual pain condition at the time caused by the presence of other diseases, such as endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, cervical stenosis, neoplastic polyps of the uterus and ovaries or uterus. IUDs can also be a cause of secondary dysmenorrhoea.


there are several traditional medicines used to treat dysmenorrhea, among others:
4 leaves of Artemisia vulgaris Linn. boiled with 6 cups of water until the remaining 2 cups. Drink 1 cup every morning and evening.
